FOOTBALL: Ilminster suffer 4-0 defeat
9:40pm Monday 28th October 2013 in Somerset Sport
A POOR first half showing condemned Ilminster to a 4-0 home defeat at the hands of Langford Rovers in the Errea Somerset league on Saturday.
In front of a good crowd at the Recreation Ground, Ilminster conceded three times in the first half an hour to leave themselves with a mountain to climb.
The young Ilminster side bounced back well, creating a number of good chances – but they failed to make any of them pay on what manager Darren Manley described as ‘a bad day at the office.’ He said: “We never really got going to be honest with you. I put out a young side, so it’s going to be a learning curve for the young lads – but i’m disappointed with the first three goals we conceded.
“It was a poor defensive effort from the whole team, a poor defensive unit. We were 3-0 down inside 30 minutes so from there it was always going to be difficult. I was pleased with how the lads reacted to going behind and we played well in the second half.
“I’m more disappointed because we had such a good crowd down there on Saturday and I feel we’ve let the fans down. The lads know they didn’t play very well so there’s no point shouting and balling about it. We’ve just got to do better next week.”
