ALEX Sparks hit a double hat-trick for Staplegrove Colts as they beat Bridgwater Wolves 9-1 in round two of the Taunton & District Saturday League’s Seward Cup.
Rob Chambers, Leighton Ballentine and Graham Hook all added one each; Jack Gardiner got the Wolves’ consolation goal.
The other game pitched Division 3 side Milverton Rangers against Division 5 side Bridgwater Grasshopper and there was no banana skin present as Rangers won the game 5-1 thanks to two goals from Lloyd Udall and one each from Craig Plumridge, Brian Cosgrove and Peter Chapman; Dan Saunders got the Grasshoppers effort.
Dulverton Town beat league new boys Ash Rangers 5-4 on penalties in the first round of the Rowbarton Charity Cup, after a 2-2 draw in normal time. Tom Edworthy and Ross Cornish had scored for Dulverton, while Harvey Puddy and Rhys Allen had done the same for Ash.
In the league, Division 1 leaders Bridgwater Sports dropped two home points when Sampford Blues held them to a 2-2 draw. Matt Fursland and Matt Stevenson scored for Sports, with Luke Perry and Dave Darch replying for Blues.
Locomotives took the opportunity to close the gap by earning themselves three points with a 3-1 away win at Hamilton Hawks. They, in fact, scored all four goals, James Conway got a pair and Ryan Vickery one at the right end with Jay Cross netting on behalf of Hawks.
Porlock won the local West Somerset derby against neighbours Alcombe Rovers 3-2. Adam Langdon scored a pair for Porlock with Harry Scratchard the other, Andrew Land and Zac Brown replied for Rovers.
Staplegrove Reserves and Middlezoy Reserves met for the first time in the top flight and it was Grove that came away victors with a 2-0 win. Adam Smith grabbed both goals in the first half.
In Division 2, Wembdon have leapt from third place to top spot after an impressive 5-1 win at Westonzoyland, while Wyvern Rangers remain undefeated after a 3-0 home win over Watchet Reserves. Joe Enticott got them going before Louis Murrell and Matt Melhuish added one each to help them to their first clean sheet of the season.
Ryan Hocking headed an excellent goal for Appletree Tone Youth against Nether Stowey from a corner to seal all three points for the home team late on.
The Gallery stay top of Division 3 after coming from behind to beat Redgate 4-2.
Morganians move up to second place after a 2-1 win at Highbridge Town Reserves thanks to goals from Andrew James and Sam Weston.
That win moved them up above Sydenham Rangers who lost out 1-2 to local rivals Bridgwater Sports Reserves for whom Jordan and Kier Meaker scored, Garth Treasure replied for Rangers.
It was a good day for the Wyvern Club as both team had victories – the Guns having a convincing 6-0 away win at Alcombe Rovers Reserves. Craig Shirley was the leading marksman for Wyvern hitting four goals, Pete Watts and Lewis Burgess getting the other two.
The game of the day in Division 4 was between the top two sides, Norton Fitzwarren and Sampford Blues Reserves – with Blues coming out on top 3-1. Kevin Smith got the Norton goal but strikes from Dave Thomas, Craig Aspin and Jack Jordan brought the points home for Blues.
A win for Tone Youth also saw them move ahead of Norton with skipper Alec Jones hitting a hat trick for Tone to help his side to a 5-1 victory over Rhode Lane Wanderers.
North Petherton Reserves drew 3-3 with Williton, while Woolavington beat Exmoor Rangers 5-0.
Porlock Reserves travelled to Nether Stowey Reserves and took all three points home with them following a 5-2 win.
Wiveliscombe climbed to the top of Division 5 with a 5-3 win against East Bower.
Galmington Dragons Reserves moved to third after a 4-0 home win over Morganians Reserves and Hamilton Athletic Foxes scraped through as winners by the odd goal in a nine-goal contest against Middlezoy Athletic.
Tom Merritt scored four goals for Creech Cougars as his side went on to beat Norton Fitzwarren Reserves 5-0, Jordan Cozens adding the fifth.
