Luff in the runs for England
2:00pm Thursday 17th October 2013 in Somerset Sport
LYMPSHAM cricketer Sophie Luff has made a promising start in the England under-19s women’s tour of South Africa.
The 19-year-old batsman flew out to South Africa earlier this month and has scored 121 runs in the first three games, being dismissed only once.
England lost the first of their three-match series by seven wickets as South Africa successfully chased down England’s 119-5.
Luff was England’s top scorer with a well compiled innings of 59 not out, which included ten fours.
She could only manage 18 in the second match, which again saw England slip to defeat.
However, the Somerset cricketer returned to form in the third match, scoring 44 not out from just 39 balls as England won by 68 runs.
Speaking after her half-century, Sophie told the ECB official website she was pleased with her performance, adding: “I went in to bat in about the sixth over and managed to bat all the way through, which was my aim.
“I started off slowly and struggled to get it away, but once I got into some rhythm when the spinners came on I hit them straight and over the leg side.”
