Bridgwater Men’s 1sts 3 East Devon 1sts 2
A LATE winner from Tom Lott fired Bridgwater to victory on Saturday.
Josh Gale and Harry Stephenson scored first-half goals to give the hosts a comfortable lead, but East Devon fought back to 2-2 before Lott’s winner snatched the points for Bridgwater.
Gale gave his side the lead before a slick move by Tom Lott, Andy Taylor and Joe Sibley created space for him to pick the ball up and slot home.
A second goal came for the home side – Stephenson was left with a tap in at the back post from a short corner.
Bridgwater would have been happy at 2-0 up, but when the ball hit Dyte on the leg on the line East Devon were awarded a penalty flick, which was converted for 2-1.
With the game finely poised East Devon found a way back to 2-2 after sloppy Bridgwater defending.
Bridgwater were left at one stage with eight players on the pitch and three in the sin bin.
The eight produced a winner – Ash Woomington and Carwyn Jenkins combined to find Tom Willis with time and space to shoot in the D, and the rebound fell to chief goal poacher Lott.
Bridgwater Ladies 1sts 3 Sidmouth & Ottery 1sts 0
LORRAINE Hollidge scored a hat-trick for Bridgwater on Saturday.
Early pressure brought several short corners and near misses after strong crosses from the right.
The breakthrough came when Hollidge ran solo through the Sidmouth defence and slipped the ball under the advancing keeper.
A second followed – Lou Sturgess crossed strongly from the right and found Hollidge with her back to goal to roll round her opponent and slot the ball in at the far post.
Bridgwater's third was again from open play – three passes moved the ball from right defence to right wing, and Hollidge was on the end of a cross from Kath Briggs.
