WESSEX WATER FISHERIES PERFORMANCE Week Ending 29th September 2013
CLATWORTHY RESERVOIR Fish Caught 278 Rod Average 2.1
This week the lake saw 278 fish landed at a rod average of 2.1. Fish were landed all over the lake by boat and bank. The best bag of the week went to Mr A Berry weighing 19lb 15oz and Mr S Stanbury had a bag weight of 18lb 4oz. Also this week there were some good sized fish caught, the best being a 5lb 2oz rainbow landed by Mr D Snell.
Main tactics for the week were floating lines using Daddy's and Black Hoppers on the surface or fishing Nymphs through the surface. Fish were also feeding on fry so Cats Whisker and Fry patterns worked well too. The main areas for fishing were the lodge bank up into Rowes from the bank with the boats fishing all over the lake and with the airline on, plenty of fish were taken from the dam area. With the weather set to remain cool, tactics will remain the same.
Dave Pursey, Ranger HAWKRIDGE Fish caught 255 Rod Average 3.7 Hawkridge fished well this week with fish being taken off the top on Daddy's, Hoppers and Dry's.
Mr W Mercer had the largest fish of the week weighing 10lb. Mr A Hawkins had a cracking 7lb 5oz rainbow and Mr Lee Perry had the best five fish limit weighing 16lb 4oz Gary Howe, Ranger SUTTON BINGHAM Fish caught Rod Average Going into the last week of the season the fishing at Sutton Bingham remains to be slow, only a few fish are being taken and things have been hard throughout the second half of the season due to the heat wave.
The regular anglers who fish the site are aware that in a normal season the fishing will drop off due to the nature of the site and its shallow depth but this season the hot weather made things much harder as it did throughout the country where some smaller fisheries closed their gates due to fish mortalities.
At the start of the year the rod average for several weeks was 4.2 to 4.4 and numerous at 3.2 with some excellent fishing to be had so it wasn't all doom and gloom, on behalf of Wessex Water, Kelvin and myself, I would like to thank all those anglers who visited Sutton Bingham for their valid custom throughout the 2013 season and look forward to seeing you all in 2014.
Ivan Tinsley, Senior Ranger
