Jupiter in Cornish thriller
7:00am Friday 11th October 2013 in Somerset Sport
Jupiter 42 Penryn 42
AFTER a long journey for their third game in the Regional League 3 against Penryn, Jupiter started well in their fight for their first win.
Quick, precise passing from player of the match Baylea Charles (C) left Penryn trailing and allowed Paige Davey (GS) to capitalise with consistent and accurate shooting.
The second quarter was Jupiter’s best with the defensive duo of Beckie Cowley (GD) and Lisa Durant (GK) working tirelessly to force errors in Penryn’s attack.
Showing great athleticism, they were able to make turnovers, allowing Jupiter to gain a strong lead, going into the third quarter 25-14 ahead.
Penryn came back in the third quarter and Jupiter were unable to raise their game.
In the final quarter, GA Amy Shaw showed great speed and change of direction, but Jupiter could not capitalise.
With 30 seconds to go Penryn took the lead for the first time, and Jupiter knew they only had one chance to avoid defeat.
With ease not seen since the first half they got the ball into the shooting circle and finished level on 42-42.
Saturn 27 Millfield 41
AFTER a disappointing loss in their last match, Saturn were fired up for what would be one of the most testing games of the season against Millfield, in their fourth season undefeated.
An impressive start saw Saturn match Millfield goal for goal. Player of the match Hazel Hucker at WD was able to mark her opponent out of the game, assisting throughout in numerous turnover balls and feeding into the attacking third.
Karis Holleron (WA) showed excellent drives on to passing balls, outwitting the opposition and giving superb feeds into the shoots, who popped the ball through the net. Saturn trailed just 12-18 at half-time.
The second half saw a few positional changes. Sally Haysham impressed, keeping Saturn in with a chance, but Millfield still pulled away.
In the final quarter Saturn regrouped and with great sideline support managed to draw the final quarter.
Neptune 42 Walton Black 42
IN Neptune’s second game of the season against Walton Black they started well, fighting well for the ball in defence.
Trailing by three after the first quarter, Neptune were even more determined to claw back and lead the game.
With great attacking and finishing, Katy Cheese (GA) shone through and assisted the one-goal lead at half time.
In the second half Neptune’s defence of (GK) Julie McClean and (GD) Bex Dunn worked tirelessly in the circle to stop Walton gaining a lead.
The final score 42-42.
Mars 28 Vipers 45
A NEW line-up for Mars with players playing up and out of position meant it took the first quarter for them to gel, which resulted in them trailing 9-4.
In the second quarter, strong centre passes from Lily Rowland (C) to Elaine Bartlett (WA) meant the shooters could position themselves effectively and have more goal attempts, but Mars still trailed 22-12.
In the third quarter, accurate feeding into the circle to Kayl Haste (GS) and Mattie Williams (GA) allowed them to convert shots and pull back to 32-23.
In the last quarter, despite defenders Mary King (GD) and player of the match Emily Harwood (GK) working hard and creating turnover balls to feed to Lucy Kyte (WD), Mars created too few turnovers, ending the game losing 28-45.
