MOTOR SPORT: Sharpe sets the pace at Nurburgring
5:10pm Saturday 21st September 2013 in Somerset Sport
IN their most challenging race yet, Team Green Recycling took a famous win in round 7 of the Nurburgring VLN Series.
Beating hot rivals Dorr Motorsport with a two minute lead after a four hour race, Adam Sharpe and Rob Smith asserted themselves as championship leaders with just three races left on the 2013 calendar.
Sharpe, the Taunton entrepreneur boss of ecommerce specialist Cardstream, said: “Nurburgring race drivers call it the ‘Green Hell’ – its proper name is the Nordschleife – and it’s 23km of sheer concentration.
“Every team wants to win and they pull out all the stops. This was our third win this season in six races and by far the most competitive.”
Adam and co-driver Rob Smith put their 410hp BMW M3 GTR on pole in changeable weather conditions that continued throughout the day.
The team made some excellent calls on tyres during the race, which went from wets to slicks and back and forth during the race.
Sharpe added: “It’s true we’ve set a standard in our class this season – but the other teams are raising the bar, too.
“The competition can only get tougher in the next three rounds.”
