RUGBY: Lane works hard to produce Taunton's fittest-ever squad

TAUNTON Titans’ players have really been put through their paces during pre-season, with strength and conditioning coach Lyndon Lane determined to raise the bar for physical performance.
Having already ensured the team follow a carefully planned post-season training and nutritional programme to keep in good shape, Lane is confident of realising an aim to field the fittest team that has ever represented the Somerset club.
Lane said: “It’s safe to say that within every team, the level of strength and conditioning support directly relates to the match fitness of the squad.
“Last season’s league winners Henley Hawks were undoubtedly a team of physical specimens, thanks in part to their excellent training staff.
“Having joined the Titans over half way through their campaign last season I’m glad to now have the time needed to implement a full and comprehensive physical training plan for the coming season.
“We’ve directed our strength and conditioning programme specifically towards the type of high tempo and exciting rugby we want to play for our supporters.
“We’ve set our sights on a better league finish than last season and the boys will be working tirelessly to ensure that we meet that objective.”
During the summer the Titans have been tested to the very limit of their physical endurance during training sessions.
However Lane has assured them it’ll be worth the effort.
He added: “Every member of the team has bought into our season aims and knows the importance of our fitness and conditioning goals if we are to be successful.
“By committing as a squad to these goals, we hope to raise our performance levels through a combination of physical and mental fitness that is a marked improvement over that previously seen.”
