WEPL Premier 1 - Ashcott and Shapwick 215-7 lost to Frocester 218-7 by three wickets
2:30pm Tuesday 11th June 2013 in Somerset Sport
ASHCOTT and Shapwick suffered a narrow three-wicket defeat to Frocester on Saturday.
Batting first, Ashcott hit 215-7 but got off to a shaky start and found themselves 92-7 after a mixture of good bowling and indifferent shots.
But Wayne Spencer (81 not out) and Steve Coppell (30 not out) played gritty knocks to ensure their side posted a competitive total.
In reply, Frocester got off to a great start and had hit 94 when Nayan Karmarkar took the first wicket.
Ashcott and Shapwick used the breakthrough to their advantage and put pressure on Frocester to take regular wickets through Coppell (4-47) but opener Nick Trainor carried his bat to finish on 104 not out and steer the visitors to victory.
*THE second team also lost a narrow match in the reverse fixture as they posted 162-9 with Lee Edmunds (55) top scoring but Frocester won with six overs left despite the efforts from Sam Patey (3-22) and Kevin Skinner (3-38).
