Bridgwater Jupiter through to Somerset Cup finals
JUPITER stormed into the final of the Somerset Cup after they beat Yeovil's Babylon 46-38 in a tough encounter.
The teams were very evenly matched but Babylon's impressive shooting meant they led 34-33 going into the last quarter.
But Jupiter raised their game and wing attack Amy Shaw began to dominate the attack with her movement and passing, and linked up well with goal attack Rosie Hill to edge Jupiter into the lead.
Defensive duo Becky Cowley and Lisa Durant then piled the pressure on Babylon's attack and restricted them to only four more goals and seal a place in next month’s cup final.
Somerset Division 1
Neptune 44, Dukes 42
Neptune took the court with a new line up due to unavailability of their regular players.
Neptune took a little while in the first quarter to settle but with accurate shooting by Lianne Fothergill (GS) and Rachael Selway (GA) Neptune took an early lead of 14-9.
In the second quarter, Dukes started to close the gap but Neptune kept their cool and with strong passing by Dawn Fothergill (C) and Lisa Philips (WA), Neptune maintained their lead at half time - 26-23.
In the third quarter, Dukes again rallied but with well timed interceptions from Michelle Stone (WD), and Julie McClean (GD) keeping the pressure on Dukes’ shooters, Neptune managed a narrow 35-33 lead.
In the final period, Neptune swapped their circle defence and with both sides determined to win, it was a closely fought contest but strong defending from Sally Haysham (moved to GD) ensured Neptune finished as winners, 44-42.
