Positives to take despite three defeats, say Bridgwater Town boss

BRIDGWATER Town joint boss Kevin Milsom said relegation is not an option despite the team losing three matches in a week.

Zayne Simpson’s free kick was the only highlight in a 4-1 defeat to North Leigh before the Robins lost 5-0 to Shortwood United and then 2-1 to Yate Town on Saturday.

Milsom said despite poor performances midweek, there were positives to take from Saturday’s showing.

He said: “If we play as well as we did on Saturday then I am not concerned about relegation.

“The aim is to get more than the 43 points the team got last season and if we do that it has been a successful year.”

There is a public meeting for fans and club officials to air their thoughts on the season at the Robins Club tonight (Tuesday) at 7.30pm and Milsom said everyone needs to get behind the team.

He added: “The decision making was all round the twist and wrong and as a team we need to take more responsibility.

“But spectators need to get behind us rather than criticise us - they have a knock on effect to the team.”

The team have only played four times since January 5 and in that time they have dropped from being play-off hopefuls to hovering above the relegation places.

But Milsom said he wants to see support not just from the fans but also the club’s board of directors too.

He said: “What looked like a promising season where we were has now become hard work but it is up to us to get something out of it.

“You can’t make a silk purse out a sows ear and the club couldn’t dream of having a better squad with the budget we have – they are good Southern League players.

“If you don’t have the budget then you have to take what you have got and as soon as people realise that is where we are and that is the only things we can work with.”

The team are due to face Mangotsfield United tonight (March 11). Kick-off is 7.45pm.
