Burnham and Berrow golf round-up
BURNHAM and Berrow are through to the third round of the Mail on Sunday National Golf Club Classic after a hard fought match at home against Worlebury.
Dave Gummer was out in the first match and secured a half but Steve Seymour, out in match two, lost 3&1 to an inspired opponent.
Robin Griffiths, match three and Neil Darby, match four, made light work of their matches winning 6&4 and 5&4 respectively.
Justin Lane, out as anchorman, uncharacteristically lost his match 4&2 which meant the tie went to a sudden death playoff.
Unfazed by losing his match, Lane hit his approach shot to the par four first extra hole to eight feet to put his opponent under pressure who duly missed the green with his approach leading to a bogey five. Lane wrapped up the match with his par four.
Saturday's non qualifying stableford over 17 holes saw Philip Worth head the field with 38 points. This was three clear of Tony Mason and Andy Birkett.
Division Two was won by Chris Perry with 37 points. Larry Summers was second with 36 and Paul Bamsey third with 33 points.
The Ladies played a '3 Clubs & a Putter' Fun Competition on February 26.
Jane Powell won with 33 points. New member Ally Forster was second with 32 points.
Two days later two teams travelled to Saunton Golf Club, Devon, to take part in an annual invitation team event.
The Ladies were in teams of six - three playing on the East Course and three on the West.
The Burnham team of Mandy Vickers, Donna Robertson, Sarah Champion, Liz Blight, Liz Matthews and Ros Gait won the second visitors' prize.
