FORMER captain Mo Sanders and future Captain Paul Jones teamed up to win the Mike Teal Trophy on Saturday at Brean Golf Club with a score of 43 stableford points.

Despite not scoring on their opening hole of the day, which was the 16th in the shotgun start, they both steadily accumulated points from there onwards which saw them win by a single point from club chairman Tony Roper and Kevin Davies.

Two pairs returned 41 points but Phil Hodgson and Graham Exton took third with the better back nine score with Hodgson's birdie three at the 18th proving crucial.

The ones who were unlucky to miss out on the prizemoney were Tony Richards and Bob Masterman who had to settle for fourth.

Paul McLanaghan may not have featured in the prizes with partner Roger Phillips but he did score the only two of the event at the second to collect a bumper pay out of £43.

The current dry, cold spell has done wonders for the playing conditions at Brean and the main greens were again in operation for the Winter League round on Sunday.

With the qualification period reaching its end, Vic Burnell helped his chances of qualifying by posting a winning score of 39. On a day when everyone was suffering with the sub zero temperatures on the course, Burnell recovered from a shaky start to rack up a flurry of three point nett birdies which boosted his score nicely.

Second place went to Tony Romeo on 35 while the last card in from Bob Masterman took the third place money on 34.

Big-hitting left-hander Pete Douglas helped himself to the February Seniors Medal last Tuesday after a superb round of 77 gave him a nett 64.

This was both the lowest gross and nett score on the day but it still only gave him a single shot advantage over the runner-up. The ever competitive Pat Mullholland filled that second spot with his nett 65 whilst three players all finished on 67.

Barrie Tucker was the best of the trio as Tony Roper was the meat in a Barrrie sandwich in fourth ahead of Barrie Yearsley who settled for fifth.
