Football: Mixed week for Ward Football: Mixed week for Ward

IT was a bittersweet week for Wellington boss Jamie Ward as his side produced an excellent 3-1 victory at the weekend but then followed it up with a 1-0 defeat on Tuesday night.

The results leave the side third from bottom and Ward said they are confident of avoiding the drop with the several games in hand they have on other teams around them.

He said: “It was a good response on Saturday from the previous week and there were lots of good performance – the win was thoroughly deserved.

“We have games in hand as with the fixture schedule as it is going to be it will stretch the squad numbers.

“But it is something that is going to affect everyone in the league and it is a matter of accumulating as many points as we can to achieve that position of safety.

“The players understand the job in hand and if they put in the efforts they are going to continue picking up points.

“That doesn’t mean that game is winnable but if they put their minds to it we can take points of anybody.”
