OFF: Bridgwater Town vs Taunton Town
BRIDGWATER Town's home derby clash with Taunton tonight (February 12) has been postponed following a pitch inspection.
Club officials and a match referee assessed the Fairfax Park pitch at midday but ruled out any hopes of play in their Southern League Division One South and West clash.
Bridgwater Town secretary Roger Palmer told the Mercury that groundstaff have removed most of the surface water but it was the south western part of the ground that is still waterlogged.
He said: "It is very frustrating and if we have another month of having to postpone games then we will have a serious fixture situation.
"We are already looking at three games a week later on in the season and it could be a repeat of three years ago when we had up to four games in a week.
"We hope that games can go ahead soon or the league may force us to change where we play our home games but we will fight tooth and nail before that happens."
The team are due to face Shortwood United at home on Saturday but with further rain forecast for Wednesday, club officials warn that this game is also in doubt.
