Somerset League Division 2W
Middlezoy Rovers 3, Westland United 1
MIDDLEZOY started the New Year as they finished 2012 with a home victory, this time against bottom-of-the-table Westland United.
The first goal of the game was scored by the visitors on 20 minutes after having the better of the early exchanges. The goal shocked Middlezoy into life and, on 34 minutes, Steve Hall was fouled inside the area with Andy Smith stepping up from the resulting penalty to make it 1-1.
Paul Atyeo got Middlezoy’s second of the afternoon, his goal owing much to the brilliance of Carl Tucker in midfield.
The second half saw Middlezoy begin to take control, Dan Luce wasting the best of the early chances with only the goalkeeper to beat.
Andy Smith missed Middlezoy’s second penalty of the afternoon but the points were sealed when, on 74 minutes, Hall grabbed his 18th goal of the season after good work from Whaites out wide.
Team: S Baker, L Turner (S Bone), Sc Turner, Sh Turner, C Robinson, C Tucker, D Luce, A Smith, S Hall, P Atyeo (A Whaites), C Wright (D Jennings).
l Middlezoy travel to Churchill on Saturday.
