Western Counties North
Yatton 7, Burnham 34
WITH Burnham's pitch full of standing water from heavy rain, the game was reversed to a home fixture for Yatton.
This was unfortunate as Burnham were to hold their annual old boys reunion but hopefully another will be arranged towards the end of the season.
Burnham were the dominant side in the early stages and from a ruck the ball was fed to fly half Tim Piper who made an excellent break who then in turn released flying winger matt love to sprint in from 35 metres.
Soon after came Burnham's second try with good phase ball from the forwards the backs were released and a simple set of passing across the back line put love into the corner for his second to lead 10-0 at the break.
Five minutes into the second half, Burnham winger Jordan Paul scored a great solo try, catching the ball on his half way line he cut through Yatton's defence to score under the posts, Piper converting.
Alan House, Sam Coles and Matt Slater helped to set up a ruck and the ball was spun out to Piper who spotted Paul out wide on his own and put in an outstanding crossfield kick for Paul to collect and to score his second.
Yatton were awarded a penalty try to get back in the game but Burnham responded and Nick McKen fed Piper who with quick soft hands sent Spellman away to score down in the corner.
The final score saw Sam Coles produce an outstanding run from his own half and skip through the oppositions defence to score a try of international class, which Piper converted to round off the 34-7 win.
Next week, the team travel to Weston Hornet for a 2.30pm kick-off.
Man of the match Jordan Paul.
