SETTLER Boys lead Bellies by one point in Division A of the Sampford Peverell and district league following their 14th victory in 20 matches.

Elmore Club are just a further point behind with a game in hand.

Reports: Bradninch C Club showed no mercy to bottom of the table Redwoods. The home team, on first, soon set up a commanding lead and ran out easy winners.

Globe Appley B were unable to prevent Settler Boys from hitting the front after the first two legs, and apart from winning the fourth leg went down in the others. Though Castaways headed The Hounds after the fourth, the away team put the boot in over the last two and won the game.

Barmy Army did not give Bellies enough to challenge as the latter went ten pins up after the first two legs. The Army pulled nine pins back over the next two but succumbed over the last two.

A close game between Globetrotters and Calverleigh went the home team’s way by a nine pins. Man of the Match was C Welsh with a three-spare 72.

Queens Head stay in the relegation danger zone as they lost at home to Globe Appley who are in the same position. GA were still one pin behind after two legs, but then pulled away to take two precious points.

DIVISION B – results: HCC1 322, The Agri-Nuts 332; Crossways 375, The Beare 424; Bullocks 376, The Merriemeade 374; Ayshford Arms 423, Bickleigh 460; Uplowman 413, Oggies 418; The Ponies, bye; Roy’s Rebels 358, Bradninch RBL 365.

High Scores: 76 – B Sharland (Bickleigh, four spares); 69 – N Cosh, M Jones (Ayshford Arms, two and three spares); 65 – S Trevelyan (Ayshford Arms, two spares).

Reports: HCC1 only dropped pins on two rubs against The Agri-Nuts but the away side made their two rubs count, pulling 16 on both to win by ten.

Crossways were on the wrong end of a battering as The Beare ran wild, going 59 pins up after five rubs before the home side picked up ten in the last.

Bullocks won the first three legs, going 19 pins up against The Merriemeade. The away side took the remaining three rubs but failed by a mere two pins to catch up.

Ayshford Arms couldn’t contain second-placed Bickleigh as the away side cruised through the game, winning five rubs and by 37 pins.

Uplowman came close against the Oggies with the away side being behind for most of the game but did it where it mattered and pulled 11 on the last to win by five.

Roy’s Rebels’ miserable run continues as Bradninch RBL manage to shade them out by seven pins in the last leg.

DIVISION C – results: Tiverton Chiefs 359, Knock Em Down 365; Huntsham A 390, Booze Cruzers 355; Rose & Crown 392, Halfway House 381; Catherine Wheel 399, The Travellers 395; Tiverton RBL 365, HCC2 333; The Farmers 381, Lion Cubs 403. Late Result: Halfway House 376, Huntsham 374.

High Scores: 65 – S Prescott (Huntsham A, two spares).

Reports: Knock Em Down took a useful away win at Tiverton Chiefs. Chiefs had a poor start and lost the first three legs to go 24 down. Chiefs then took the next three legs, but KED had their noses too far in front to be caught.

Huntsham A stay in the promotion hunt with a 35 pin home win against Booze Cruzers. Huntsham took a 17 pin lead after two legs, which stretched to 21 after four. A further 16 pin advantage on the fifth left Cruzers with too much to do.

Halfway House slip to third after an 11 pin defeat away at Rose and Crown. Halfway were on first and started well, going seven pins up after the first two legs. But R&C were the consistent side and had reversed the deficit after four legs to go 14 up. Halfway took the last two legs, but not by enough.

Catherine Wheel go clear in second place with their four pin home win against The Travellers. Catherine Wheel set their stall out early and were 23 up at the half-way point. Travellers fought back to take the fourth and sixth legs, but they lost the fifth by four and that turned out to be the difference.

Tiverton RBL were back to winning ways with comfortable home victory against an under-strength HCC2. Although HCC2 were a man short, they took the first leg by four. But the remaining five legs went with the home side for a 32 pin win.

Lion Cubs are now unbeaten in five matches after a 22 pin win at The Farmers. Farmers took just one leg in a game that saw Cubs slowly extend their lead.
