THE Travellers from Division C pulled off a major shock in the second round of the knock-out cup when they defeated Division A leaders Settler Boys.

And Roy’s Rebels of Division B beat Elmore Club, posting what is the highest alley total for some years.

Results: Elmore 384, Roy’s Rebels 414; The Beare 362, Booze Cruzers 357; Globe Appley B 411, Bellies 378; Bradninch RBL 443 + 80, Barmy Army 433 + 90; The Ponies 392, Calverleigh 412; HCC1 326, Castaways 360; The Travellers 480, Settler Boys 449; Bradninch C Club 512, Lumberjacks 445.

High Scores: 85 – C Acton (Bradninch C Club, five spares); 81 – Tom Curtis (The Travellers, four spares); 77 – Scott Sobey (Settler Boys, three spares one of 25); 76 – E Andress (Bradninch C Club, four spares); 73 – D Groves (The Ponies, three spares one of 24); 67 – P Chappell (Bradninch C Club, three spares), J Locke (The Ponies, four spares); 66 – M Blatchford and T Burns (Bradninch RBL, two spares).

Report: Elmore Club were always playing catch up again their Division B opponents, Roy’s Rebels. The Rebels were 16 pins up after two, and 48 up after five. And although Elmore won the last leg, the birds had flown.

A closely fought game took place between The Beare and Booze Cruzers, and after two legs the scores were level. The home team who were on alley first were then overtaken by the visitors, but managed over the last two legs to haul back the pins and then some more.

Though Globe Appley lost the first two legs in their game against Bellies, they then got their act together and won the rest of the legs and the game, mainly by virtue of a 20 pin pull on the fifth leg.

The tightest game of the round took place between Bradninch RBL and Barmy Army. This is the second cup game that has ended in a draw for RBL, but this time they lost the extra leg by ten. Both teams took three legs each, but the Army posted the extra spare to take the game.

The Ponies could not shake off Calverleigh as the latter won their share of the legs by enough to take the game. This was in spite of the only two high scores of the game were posted by the home team and also included a 24 spare from Dave Groves.

HCC1 won the first leg against Castaways, but were never in the game after that as the away team stamped their authority and took the rest of the legs.

In the game of the round The Travellers took on league leaders Settler Boys and came out on top. The home team put the visitors on first, and then proceeded to win four out the six legs and take a comfortable victory.

With Bradninch C Club posting two legs of 90 they made sure of their place in the next round as they had a comfortable win over Lumberjacks. Man of the match was Chris Acton with a five-spare 85.

Quarter-finals draw (to be played on May 6: The Beare v Calverleigh, Castaways v Bradninch C Club, Barmy Army v Roy’s Rebels, The Travellers v Globe Appley B.
