DAVID Jack launched his reign as captain of Tiverton Golf Club on New Year’s Day.

The Scotsman, who plays off a handicap of 19, took part in the traditional Captains’ Drive-in from the 10th tee at 1pm.

He was joined by Tiverton’s three other new captains – Judy Phripp (ladies), Les Hartley (veterans) and Grace Jackson (juniors).

Jackson got off to the best possible start by winning the New Year’s Day cross-country competition in the morning.

The 16-year-old linked up with her predecessor, Tom Hanson, to shoot a one-under gross 30 for a nett 26.25.

Neil and Hannah Carthew scored 27.5 to share second place with Martin Selby and Martin Taggart.

Bridget Grieve posted 22 stableford points over 11 holes to win the ladies’ three clubs and a putter competition on Wednesday.

The 25-handicapper was followed by Kay Leach (20) and Chris Young (19) in Bronze Division One.

Jo Lloyd-Davies scored 15 to top the Silver Division on a countback from Alison Hilton, while Marg Sampson claimed the Bronze Division Two prize with 16.
