MARK Sangster and Heath Ellis booked their place in the knock-out stages of the men’s Winter Foursomes at Tiverton after winning the third qualifying event on Saturday.

Sangster and Ellis posted a four-under aggregate of 14 in the medalford format, where the stableford total on the back nine is deducted from the medal score on the front.

John Court and Danny McArdle finished second, also on 14, but had already qualified for the last 32.

Dean Reed and Adrian Frost came third with 15, one ahead of Les Jones and Dan Smith plus Steve Carey and Peter Garnsworthy.

Also progressing to the knock-out rounds were Simon Young and Colin Taylor (18), Ian Budden and Norman Ford (20), Simon Budden and Dave Buxton (20) and Andy Ogden and Lawrence Blake (20).

Chris Webster posted 39 stableford points off his 27 handicap to win the veterans’ Stan Sage Trophy on Tuesday.
