SETTLER Boys stay top of the Sampford Peverell and district league following a 27 pin win over Lumberjacks.

Elmore Club are now in clear second place thanks to their defeat of Queens Head.

In Division B All Blacks are top with three teams in joint second place.

Reports: A comfortable win for Elmore Club over Queens Head keeps them in second place. The home team set the standard and though the third leg was shared and Queens won the fourth, Elmore were not giving up their advantage.

There was a welcome return to winning ways for Bradninch C Club as they easily beat Globe Appley in the end. The away team were ahead after two legs by 15 pins, but the Cricketers won the rest of the legs.

Globe Appley B won five of the legs in their game against Calverleigh as the away team struggled to get to grips with the alley. This win sees GAB climb a place in the table.

The Hounds were unable to put enough pins up to stop Bellies overtaking them after two legs, and that set the standard for the game as Bellies won five of the legs.

Settler Boys stay top of the league after a comfortable win over Lumberjacks. The Boys overtook the Jacks after the second leg, and though the away team won the fourth leg, that was their only success.

An amazing last leg from Castaways saw them snatch a win over Barmy Army. The Army had set the standard and going into the last leg the home team were still five pins adrift, but a 77 leg saw them pull 26 pins.

DIVISION B: results – Barley Mow 396, Roy’s Rebels 376; HCC1 337, Bradninch RBL 372; Crossways, bye; The Merriemeade 380, Oggies 422; The Beare 385, Bickleigh 360; The Agri-Nuts 367, All Blacks 385; Ayshford Arms 432, The Ponies 430; Bullocks 369, Uplowman 364.

Reports: Barley Mow kicked off well, taking an eight pin lead against Roy’s Rebels. They then increased this by a further 14 on their next visit to the alley. The away side pulled a couple on the final visit but the home team finished comfortable 20 pin winners.

HCC1 took an early seven pin lead but Bradninch RBL soon got in gear and easily pulled away to win by 35 pins.

The Merriemeade’s poor form continues as Oggies won five of the six legs to cruise to a 42 pin win.

The Beare claimed an easy 25 pin win over Bickleigh, winning four of the six rubs and dropping only five over the other two.

The Agri-Nuts lost the game against All Blacks in the first rub, dropping 27 pins. They made a late bid, pulling 22 on the last two, but the away side had built up a 40 pin lead by the fourth.

Ayshford Arms came in 17 pins down after the first innings against The Ponies but pulled a tasty 32 over the next two to go 15 up. The away side made a late bid but fell just two short of the points.

Bullocks won a close-fought game against Uplowman with all legs within a few pins. The the home side managed to edge it by five.

DIVISION C: results – Tiverton Chiefs 355, The Farmers 353; Ashill Inn 388, Lion Cubs 391; Huntsham A 369, HCC2 352; Halfway House 371, The Travellers 366; Heathcoat Hulas 392, Booze Cruzers 363; Knock Em Down 318, Tiverton RBL 320; Rose & Crown 396, Catherine Wheel 404. High Scores: 70 – Rod Bowerman (Booze Cruzers, two spares one of 22); 68 – N Roud (Rose & Crown, three spares); 66 – David Cork (Booze Cruzers, three spares); 65 – Terry Palfrey (Booze Cruzers, two spares).

Reports: Tiverton Chiefs maintained their 100% home record with a two pin win against The Farmers. Chiefs were 11 up after three legs, but Farmers pulled eight on the fourth to leave a tense finish. A modest last two legs from Chiefs meant Farmers needed 63 on the final leg, but it wasn’t to be and Chiefs took the win.

Lion Cubs stay two points clear at the top of the table after a three pin away win at Ashill Inn. Cubs, playing a man short, took an 11 pin lead after two legs and were ten up after four. Ashill saved their best leg until last, but Cubs did just enough to hold on for the win.

Huntsham A were back to winning ways with a home victory against HCC2. Huntsham were four down after four legs, but posted two 60+ legs to finish. HCC2 couldn’t quite match their hosts and lost by 17.

A close game at Halfway House saw the home side win by five against The Travellers. Halfway were six down at the mid-point, but a 77 fourth leg saw them stride into an 18 pin unassailable lead with two legs to go.

Heathcoat Hulas had a comfortable home win against Booze Cruzers. Hulas took all but the final leg to win by 29.

Knock Em Down lost by just two at home to high-flying Tiverton RBL. The home side were 16 down after three legs, but the fourth saw a reverse in fortunes and KED found themselves five in front. Set a target of 107 for the win off the last two, RBL did it with a pin to spare.

Catherine Wheel’s good run of form continued with an eight pin away win at Rose and Crown. Catherine Wheel were on first and leapt to a 23 pin lead after two legs. R&C managed to pull ten pins on the next two, but couldn’t quite close the gap.
