CHEM Austin and Charlie Durnan won the first qualifying event for the men’s Winter Foursomes at Tiverton on Saturday.
Austin and Durnan posted a two-under nett 69 to book their place in the knock-out stages.
Charlie Sampson and Bradley Scott came second with 70 but as juniors weren’t eligible to qualify.
Andy Brice and Roy Ireland, Eric Cole and Steve Hosford plus Bill Tobin and Steve Hayes were the other pairs to break par, all shooting 70.5.
Also progressing to the last 32 were Mike Hurley and Mike Holder (71), Tony Allsopp and Neil Carthew (71.5), Mike Collins and Nick Conabeare (72) and Derek Cruwys and Andy Bolt (72).
Jackie Slocombe and Kay Leach carded 51 stableford points to win the ladies’ Odds and Evens competition on Wednesday.
Alison Hilton and Kay Beaumont came second with 49, followed by Shirley Ward and Julie Hasell (47) and Charlotte Snow and Lesley Crossley (47).
In the 11-hole competition, Janice Haynes and Christine Norton top-scored with 22.
