TIVERTON duo Megan Deans and Tom Hanson have qualified for the Andalucia Junior European Open in Spain, sponsored by the Daily Express.

In the regional final at Downes Crediton, Deans won the girls’ tournament with a gross 80 while Hanson finished joint third in the boys’ event with the same score.

Amid strong winds and heavy showers, seven-handicapper Deans finished two ahead of Stover’s Molly Pavey.

Two-handicapper Hanson was joined in third place by Alex Rawle, from Carswell in Oxfordshire, following Stover’s Seb Born (76) and Torquay's James Thompson (79).

Tiverton club-mates Tom Trowbridge (81) and Bradley Scott (82) just missed out on qualification.

The final will be staged over five rounds in November, including at Finca Cortesin, a former venue of the Volvo World Match Play Championship.

Joe Pike made it two junior victories in a fortnight by winning the Texaco Salver with 39 stableford points.

Pike, fresh from his success in the Barry Austin Shield, pipped Dan Brooks on a countback in Division Two and had his handicap cut from 24 to 23. Ben Thomas followed them with 38.

Jake Reddick won Division One with 38, followed by George Sampson (36), Tom Hanson (35) and Jimmy Heard (35).

Will Bucknell won the non-CONGU event off the red tees while Anthony Waterman triumphed off the blue tees.

Tom Trowbridge has been selected by England Golf for winter training with the South West under-16 squad.

Ken Rixon carded 38 stableford points off his 24 handicap to win the men’s Lewis Tankard final on Monday.

The event is for the players who have the best nine-hole scores in weekday stableford competitions throughout the season.

Xanda Vass posted a score of 0 to win the ladies’ October Par on Wednesday.

Vass topped Bronze Division One ahead of Anne Warne (-1) and Hannah Carthew (-1).

Oki Northwood claimed the Silver Division prize with -4, edging out Teresa Birchmore and Maureen Postles on a countback.

Wendy Frost (-2) was the winner in Bronze Division Two, in front of Wendy Frost (-4) and Jean Granger (-6).

The vice-president's team beat the Captain's side 6½-5½ in their annual challenge match on Saturday.
