CARY Rawlings secured the Padbrook Park Club Championship after defeating Curtis Edwards in a tight 36th contest.

Edwards had been in control through the morning round - but double bogeys on the 17th and 18th holes saw Rawlings take a one shot advantage going into lunch.

A birdie on the 11th hole of the second round from Edwards saw both players level. But a short missed putt from Edwards on the next and a birdie from Rawlings on the 14th put Rawlings two ahead. Edwards birdied the 16th but saw a 10 foot birdie putt on the 17th slip just past.

Rawlings had a slice of luck when his drive on the 18th hit a tree and bounced onto the adjacent 9th fairway.

His second shot made it into the green-side bunker. Edwards failed to take advantage and found a bunker himself. Rawlings got up and down and that secured the win.

Rod Hutchings won the nett Club Championship. His two round total of 145 saw him beat Steve Heath by one shot. Hutchings started poorly but corrected matters with three birdies in four holes.

Heath had been in pole position after the first round but a poor back nine on the second round cost him as he recorded a double and triple bogey.

He would have secured a play off with a par on the last but he could only manage a bogey five.

Mark Perrott won the Committee Cup for the best score not to win a main prize thanks to his 71.
