Curtis stakes a step up

PLAYERS in the Cornwall Poker League are gearing themselves up for a tough run-in of tournaments over the last six weeks of the season. The past week has seen action from Penzance to Penryn with several of the "usual suspects" scoring good results.

Tony Fabricator has, again, done better than most. He has increased his overall league lead, took control of October's player of the month race and hit a straight flush to land him the jackpot in midweek.

Another man in form was Matt Ambrose who added vital points to his League position.

Paula Read and John Foxton both hit comeback victories after returning to the circuit following their busy summer schedules. John's win puts him back in the pink play-off zone whilst Paula is only seven points off contention in the RAOB Buffs Club League.

Players are reminded that voting starts soon for the end of year awards - full categories can be found on www.cornwallpokeronline.com One player who surely must be in the running for "Newcomer of the Year" is Emil "the Brilliant Bulgarian" Ivanov who won a record seventh victory of the campaign this week. Famed for his aggressive moves, Emil played things a little more patiently against the Fabricator at the RBL and maybe just gave his supporters a glimpse of the depth that he has added to his game.

In the free-to-play Cornwall Pub League, third place for John Mitchell was enough for him to retain the lead in Falmouth's Wodehouse Arms league. One time leader "Slavek" is in second place after his win this week whilst publican Andy gray lies in the bronze medal position.

Spare a thought for Curtis Jago who made the step up from the Wodehouse Arms league into the RAOB Buffs Club's Famous Friday Freezeout. Curtis did admirably on his Buffs debut before he fell away in tenth position - just one place away from the coveted Final Table To keep up with all the action see www.cornwallpoker.co.uk or give the tournament directors a ring on 077799-32015.
