Falmouth Town manager Alan Carey has called for more from his players following a 0-0 draw at home to Camelford on Saturday.

Falmouth struggled to create chances in the match and despite a late shot from substitute Rob Wearne, which hit the post, they didn't look like breaking the deadlock.

Carey said the draw was an important point, but he was left frustrated by his side's performance.

“I thought we played in fits and starts, we never really got going, apart from the last ten minutes,” he said.

“I think we have got one or two young players who are playing within themselves at the moment. Whether that is to do with the pressure of playing for Falmouth, I don’t know. But there are one or two youngsters who I know are not playing to the potential that they can play at.

“Maybe they need to settle in a bit, but I’m sure we will get the best out of them in the end. As far as the result is concerned, we haven’t lost and that is important. I was disappointed that we didn’t create enough chances, I felt we were just lacking a little bit of quality.

“We tended to knock it a bit too long for my liking, we didn’t get it down and play it like I would have liked.”

Carey did praise the performance of Wearne though. The young striker came on with ten minutes to go and came close to breaking the deadlock on three occasions.

“On reflection I should have probably got him on a bit earlier,” said Carey. “But I have talked to Rob about it, we feel that he is learning after stepping up to this level. I have no doubts about his quality and he will certainly be a player that will come through. If you look at today’s (Saturday’s) performance, you could probably say we maybe should have got him on a little bit earlier. I have to take the can for that one. But at the end of the day Rob is a big player in the squad and I’m sure as the season progresses, so his minutes (on the pitch) will become more and more.”
Carey last week told the Packet that he was looking to bring in a target man to help Glen Squires up front. However, he admitted the club is no closer to doing that.

“We are still looking,” he said. “We need the league to settle down a bit. See who is out of favour at different clubs. We did have somebody (lined-up), but there has been an injury at that club so it looks like the guy we targeted will not be coming to us. We will keep looking, but we don’t need to go rushing to the shops yet. We know what the season is about. This season is about consolidating, making sure we are not in trouble and making sure we are in the top half of the table.

“That is the brief I have been given. That is what we are aiming to do, so points, like the one we have got today (Saturday), are important.”
