Camborne made it two wins from two in South West One with a workman-like display to see off the challenge of Thornbury in the sunshine at the Recreation Ground, writes Martin Symons.

Playing down the slope the Cherry and Whites totally dominated the opening exchanges camped in the visitors but all they had to show for their supremacy was a straightforward 14th minute David Mankee penalty after the fly half had earlier hit a post with another effort.

Midway through the half the home pressure finally told when skipper Dave Roberts made inroads in midfield before the ball was swept  left to wing Shane Woods who did well to dive over at the corner flag. Mankee booted a majestic touchline conversion to make the score 10-0.

As the interval neared 'Town' were well on top but Thornbury responded with an isolated attack giving hardworking scrum half Jak Evans the chance to burst over for an opportunist individual try to cut the deficit.

Early in the second period visiting centre Tim Stephens made a strong run downfield before off loading to winger Rich Bennett who sped over. Stephens’ conversion made the score 10-12.

Camborne were soon back in front when Mankee stroked over a 52nd minute long range penalty and another Mankee effort followed as the visitors infringed under their own posts soaking up heavy pressure for 16-12.

After hooker Sam Bartle went desperately close to touching down an excellent penalty from the boot off Stephens cut the arrears to a single point.

That was as good as it got for the visitors as outstanding No 8 Roberts had the final word crashing over for the decisive try following a lineout catch and drive courtesy of a neat reverse pass from scrum half Dean Pascoe.

The unlucky Mankee saw his conversion come back off the post and his late penalty miss ensured the visitors returned home with the consolation of a losing bonus point.
