Falmouth get five points against truro
Falmouth A 27 TRURO CITY A 18 WITH the summer leagues now in full swing, Falmouth As welcomed Truro City As on Thursday.
On Rink 1, men’s club captain, David Winnan with men’s A captain, Tony Nancholas number three, Doug Travers number two and Graham Ron’s leading, proved far too strong for Truro’s Chris Loaders rink with Mike Kinley number three, John Rich number two and Andy Parker leading. After ten ends Falmouth led 16-5 and only token resistance enabled the Truro rink to reach 14 shots as Falmouth went on to win by a huge 45-14, taking 17 shots in the last five ends.
Rink 2 saw Falmouth’s Paul Bobin at skip, David Hey number three, Phil Eells number two and Paddy McMullen at lead take a 14-7 lead after ten ends against Truro’s Brian Davey’s rink with Roy Townsend number three, C Sanders number two and N Mibruff leading.
Falmouth got stuck on 14 for four ends as Truro came back to be only two shots in arrears 14-12, but Falmouth then took control and finished in grand style taking 13 shots from the last four ends to win 32-16.
With a shake up in personnel, rink three saw Tom Reid take over the roll of skip, whilst Ron Medlyn dropped to number three, Tony Pereir number two and John Bishop brought in from the B side at lead.
After ten ends both sides were level at 9-9 when tea was taken.
Truro’s David Edgecomb at skip, Len Rowe number three, Tony Collins at number two and Tony Montanson at lead were proving difficult for the Falmouth team to shake off as on at least two occasions holding five and six shots only to see David Edgecomb come in for shot or scatter the head. However on the 18th end Falmouth picked up seven shots followed by a four to win the game 27-18, to give Falmouth all five points.
REDRUTH C 56 FALMOUTH A 53 Visiting Redruth C on Tuesday evening the As knew it would be tough on the Redruth green on rinks one and two across the pavilion, which are known to be very difficult.
Rink 1 saw Falmouth’s David Winnan at skip, Tony Nancholas number three, Doug Travers number two and Graham Irons leading have a shock, as on the second end Redruth’s Denis Wards rinks, Derek Grubb number three, Tony Eathorne number two and M Styles leading pick up a “hot shot” – eight shots on one end to take an 8-2 lead.
Gradually Falmouth eased their way back into the game to only trail by three shots after 12 ends – Redruth then got stuck on 13 for four ends and 15 for four ends as the Falmouth team now in control went on to a comfortable win 24-17 after the early shock.
On rink 2 Falmouth’s Ron Medlyn’s rink, tom Reid number three, Tony Pereir number two and Moss Fuller leading had a bad day at the office against Redruth’s Bob Howarth at skip, D Merton number three, T Vinnicombe number two and B Morrish at lead.
Both Redruth’s one and two bowled very steady and put Falmouth under pressure. The Falmouth rink were not up to their usual standard as the Redruth team removed any bowls Falmouth had near the jack and deservedly win by a 22-10 margin.
Rink 3 Falmouth’s Paul Bobins rink with David Hay number three, Phil Eells number two and Paddy McMullen leading, were against Redruth’s Ken Moir at skip, J Rollings number three, P Curnow number two and C Salter at lead.
This was a very close game with fortunes swaying from one side to the other and after ten ends it was 10-10.
Redruth then went 14-10 up, but Falmouth fought back to again take the lead 16-14, 16-16 after 18 ends and with Redruth taking a single on the 19th to lead. But Falmouth hung in the game to take a two and a one to win the game 19-17 after a very tense finish.
FALMOUTH B 61 MYLOR B 48 Falmouth Bs welcomed Mylor B on Wednesday evening an on Rink 1 saw Phil Eells take over the skips roll with Melville Angel number three, Doug Richards number two and John Daly at lead take a 12-7 lead at the tea break against Mylor’s Barry May’s rink, John Jose number three, D Stuart at number two and E Watts leading.
After tea Falmouth forged ahead with a five followed by a four and Mylor from then on were not in the game as Falmouth ran out winners 28-12. Rink 2 saw Falmouth’s Paul Williams rink, Brian Bishop at number three, Moss Fuller number two and John Bishop at lead play Mylor’s Peter Clarks rink, I Handford number three, R Weatherhead number two and David Jenkin at lead.
After ten ends both team were level at 8-8. Falmouth eased out to 14-10 and this margin was to remain to the end as Falmouth won 17-14.
Rink 3 saw Falmouth’s Harry Coults rink with Walter Clark number three, Palo McMullen and Chris Chatterton leading were against John Brown’s rink with Andy Poole number three, C Johns number two and D Onslow leading.
After 11 ends Falmouth led 13-7, but were to remain on 13 for four ends as Mylor came back to level the game 15-15 after 16 ends. Falmouth could only score one more shot and Mylor went on to win 22-16.
FALMOUTH C 79 PERRANPORTH 60 Falmouth C welcomed Perranporth on Monday evening. Falmouth’s Rink 1 saw John Bobin at skip, Gordon Hamilton number three, Brian Chambers number two to David Retchford at lead take on Perranporth’s strongest rink with Keith Trenerry skipping, Trevor Hocking number three, Don Hudson number two and Brian Rutherford leading. Falmouth did an excellent job to contain this strong rink and only to lose the game by one shot 27-28.
Rink 2 saw skip Harry Hodge, Doug Moyle number three, Derek Riley number two and Alan Winn leading had a very close game with Perranporth’s T Hughes, D Hick number three, D Stroud number two and J Tonkin leading. After a dour struggle both teams eventually ended up 19-19, a drawn game.
Rink 3 saw Bob Mynett at skip, Bob Hay number three, Bruce Littlewood number two and Phil Martin at lead. Falmouth were always on top in this game and went on to win impressively 33-13.
Results – Falmouth A 104 (5 points), Truro A 48 (0); Redruth C 56 (3), Falmouth A 53 (2); Mawnan (5), Falmouth B (0); Falmouth B (4½), Falmouth C (½); Falmouth B 61 (4), Mylor B 48 (1); Falmouth C 79 (3½), Perranporth 60 (1½).
