Callington 98, Truro 104-4 Truro are very much in the Jolly’s Drinks ECB Cornwall Premier League title race after this fourth successive win.
With St Just drawing level with Werrington, after their 102 run success at Ladycross on Saturday, Truro are only eleven points adrift of the pair at the half way mark of the season.
There’s a vital game at Boscawen Park on Saturday however with St Just the visitors. At Callington, Chris Hunkin produced a devastating spell to wreck the home innings. Alex Taylor did the early damage removing openers Dan Davis and Jake Libby with only 19 on the board. Hunkin then set to work producing his best figures of the season.
He went on to take seven for 37 from sixteen overs. It included a hat trick in his eleventh over. He trapped top scorer Luke Davis lbw for 21. Then Peter Tancock was bowled and Joe White caught behind by Tim Marrion in successive balls. Aiden Libby struck out to make 36 but the innings ended in the 36th over at 98. Truro were set on their way to victory by Chris Martin, who hit 31. Callington gained some consolation getting rid of Tim Marrion and James Walton for ducks. Barry Purchase finished things off with 32 not out and a six off the last ball enabled a fourth batting point to be gained. Luke Davis took three of the four wickets to fall.
There was disappointment for Truro in last week’s Vinter Cup semi final when they were defeated by 13 runs against Paul at Redruth.
After conceding 170 for three Truro lost early wickets to dent their hopes and ended on 157 for seven with Jon Kent 59 not out. Paul play the holders St Just in next Wednesday’s final at Camborne (6pm).
