TRURO 201-2 FALMOUTH 197-9 Truro’s sixth win of the season, and third in succession, strengthened their Jolly’s Drinks ECB Cornwall Premier League title challenge.
As the halfway mark of the season is reached they are 24 points behind the leaders Werrington in a three way title race with St Just.
Falmouth’s innings was a mixed affair with five batsmen passing 20 but no-one could reach the half century mark. Antony Angove top scored with 43 while Duncan Ayres made 37 at number eight.
Tom Sharp put the brakes on in the later stages taking four for 42. There were a couple of wickets each for Chris Hunkin and Alex Taylor.
Truro’s reply got off to a sound start with Jonathan Kent and Barry Purchase adding 73 before Purchase was caught behind for 49, that included two sixes and seven fours. Kent followed immediately, bowled by Dave Neville for 22.
That was Falmouth’s last success however as Tom Sharp and Chris Hunkin secured victory by eight wickets with 16 overs to spare. Sharp hit 13 fours in his 75 not out and Hunkin made a welcome fifty not out. Truro will be looking to continue their run at bottom club Callington on Saturday.
GRAMPOUND ROAD 258-7 CAMBORNE 217 Grampound Road maintained a cushion at the top of County Division one with this comfortable success at Camborne.
The foundations of a big total were laid by Dave Legge and Jake Preston who put on 131 for the first wicket. Legge, who needed a runner, was run out for 46 but Preston went on to make 91. Matt South (39) and Tom Hughes (38) kept the momentum going. Camborne slipped to 85 for five as Lewis Sanders got rid of dangermen Darren Shorland and Martin Jenkin. Ian Berridge, Ben Rowse and Martin Roberts went through the rest of the order before the last pair of Luke Johnson and Simon Blackburn added 36 in the closing overs. The ‘Road’ host improving Launceston on Saturday.
Grampound Road 258-7 (J Preston 91, D Legge 46, M South 39, T Hughes 38; G Head 2-30, C Johnson 2-49), Camborne 217 (G Stephens 44, C Thomas 28, L Johnson 25no, S Blackburn 24; L Sanders 3-25, I Berridge 2-24, M Roberts 2-28, B Rowse 2-31). Grampound Road (20 points) beat Camborne (eight) by 41 runs.
BUGLE 141 TRURO 145-0 Truro seconds won easily on their first ever visit to Bugle. The home team were reduced to 59 for six by Andrew Fairman and Andrew Grant before Paul Gribble’s 34 not out helped them recover to 141 all out. Gert Buitendach hit a six and 16 fours in his unbeaten 82 and Richard Pascoe was 42 not out when victory came inside 29 overs. Truro host looe this weekend.

Truro (20 points) beat Bugle (three) by ten wickets ST AUSTELL 275-8 GRAMPOUND ROAD 214-5 Grampound Road seconds went down to two weekend defeats. Tim Manhire made 87 not out in the 61 home defeat by St Austell seconds. Tom Trethewy and Daniel Barretto took three wickets.

FOWEY 313-9 GRAMPOUND ROAD 269-8 On Sunday, in a game put back from May because of the Du Maurier Festival, Fowey amassed 313 helped by 63 wides. Ian Berridge made 69 not out in the ‘Road’ reply but the ‘Road’ ended 44 runs short. A trip to Liskeard is scheduled this Saturday.

TRURO THIRDS 161-7 HELSTON 124 Truro thirds gained a good win over visiting Helston by 37 runs. Olly Creagh made 51 in Truro’s 161 for seven. Stephen Heayn and Kiran Bhardwaj took four wickets apiece to see Truro home.

CROFTY/HOLMAN 277-7 TRURO FOURTHS 83 Truro fourths went down to a crushing 194 run defeat at Crofty/Holman seconds. Mark Atkins took four for 57 while Ross Pascoe made 27.
