Penzance enjoyed an eight-wicket win at Grampound Road in the Cornwall Premier League on Saturday.

Grampound set their opponents 224 to win after being bowled out in the 47th over, with Penzance reaching their target with just under eight overs to spare.

Grampound Road won the toss and opted to bat, with openers David Hoskings and Alex Lean racing towards 50 after just 25 balls, with the pair reaching 75 when Hoskings was caught by Dylan Blignaut.

Lean (14) followed soon after with Ravindra Karunarathna reaching 16 before he was bowled by Thomas Wells.

Wells then claimed Chris Roberts but the batsman added a very handy 43, with Thomas Orpe going one better with 44 as the hosts surpassed the 200 mark.

Thankfully from a Penzance perspective, the Grampound lower order could not match the efforts of their middle order predecessors, with the final four batsmen scoring just two runs between them as Grampound were bowled out for 223 in the 47th over.

Scott Harvey was the star for Penzance in their reply with an excellent 84 not out. He enjoyed a 76-run stand alongside Ryan Edwards before the latter was caught by David Hoskings off Orpe’s delivery, having contributed 27 to the total.

Jack Paull came in at three and was also in fine form, hitting 73 off 76 balls to put the visitors in control, reaching 209 when Paull was stumped by Chris Willett.

Greg Smith was the only other visiting batsman to get a run out, scoring 13 not out alongside Harvey as Penzance crossed the winning line in the 43rd over.
