Truro City 1, Gloucester City 2

TRURO CITY slipped even further adrift in the National League South relegation battle after a frustrating 1-2 defeat to fellow strugglers Gloucester City, writes Cameron Weldon.

In front of a crowd of over 600, Truro started the brighter and dominated the majority of the opening period.

Jordan Copp, Brandon Diau and Tyler Harvey all had early efforts well saved by Gloucester 'keeper Tom King, as the White Tigers searched for an early goal.

Harvey then had a goal wards shot blocked before River Allen drilled a shot well wide of the target.

Despite seeing very little of the play it was in fact the hosts who took the lead on 38 minutes, through a superb solo effort from Fabien Robert. The Frenchmen’s stunning effort gave the visitors the advantage at the break, coming completely against the run of the play.

The White Tigers didn’t let the goal affect them and started the second half like they started the first. Defender Nick Grimes saw a header tipped over the bar brilliant by King. Diau then headed over as Truro pushed for an equaliser.

Truro were then gifted a huge opportunity back into the game after the referee gave the White Tigers a penalty for hand ball. Unfortunately, Harvey couldn’t take advantage as he saw his low penalty knocked onto the post by King.

Substitute Jared Lewington then saw his close-range effort brilliantly saved by the Gloucester keeper as Truro continued to add the pressure.

While pushing for the much-needed goal, they were caught short at the back and Jake Jackson took full advantage, giving the White Tigers a mountain to climb.

Robert was then denied his second as he rattled the bar before Harvey tried his luck from distance and beat King to give the home side hope deep into added time.

Although it proved too little, too late for the White Tigers as Gloucester held on for all three points. City remain in the relegation zone, one point from safety with two games to go.
