Falmouth 24, Truro 22
Matt Horton's last-gasp penalty secured a dramatic late win for Falmouth at home to local rivals Truro in their final game of the season on Saturday, consigning their opponents to relegation from the Tribute Western Counties West in the process.
The late kick handed the Eagles victory and sent Truro down to Cornwall/Devon, offering a late reprieve for Chard, who were set to fall through the trap door had Truro held on.
There was no such fear for Falmouth, who secured their 12th win of the campaign to finish in a very respectable seventh and a full 15 points above the drop zone.
The defeat will be even harder to take for Truro, who had led for most of the match, although Falmouth had led through Fred Dalton, whose try was converted by Horton.
Knowing they needed to get a victory to save their league status, the visitors roared back with tries from No 8 Luke Trescothick and wing Joshua Symons. Scrum-half Owen Davey converted one and landed a penalty to put his side 15-7 up.
Truro extended their lead with another try, again converted by Davey, but the Eagles hit back with converted tries from AJ Geach and Ashley Searle to move to within a point at 21-22, before snatching victory with Horton's late penalty.
