TRURO CITY got a much needed three points in their National League South relegation battle after a hard fought 2-0 win over Eastbourne Borough at Treyew Road, writes Cameron Weldon.
Coming off the back of a 2-1 defeat to Chippenham Town last time out, The White Tigers weren’t taking any prisoners and roared in action.
Connor Riley-Lowe headed City ahead with just six minutes on the clock after a Truro corner was half cleared, out to Nick Hurst whose brilliant cross was headed home by the City full back for 1-0.
Top scorer Tyler Harvey then latched onto a cross and saw his header tipped over the bar by Eastbourne keeper Sam Howes.
It was all one-way traffic and City then had a shot cleared off the line after a scramble of players attacked the loose ball following a free kick from Riley-Lowe.
Man of the Match Niall Thompson then did superbly well on the right-hand side, beating two Eastbourne defenders before seeing his shot just go over the bar.
The White Tigers dominance was really starting to show, after a succession of Truro corners, Michael Herve set up Jared Lewington whose effort agonisingly hit the post.
Thompson again was making a nuisance of himself and his attempted cross nearly caught Eastbourne keeper Howes out, but he just about managed to tip it over, to keep his side in it going into the break.
More chances followed for the White Tigers in the early stages of the second half, both of which fell to Nick Hurst. First a header which went over the bar, following a Thompson cross before failing to convert a Herve pull back.
Eastbourne struggled to create many chances, but they did force Rivers into a smart save on the hour mark.
Skipper Jamie Richards then saw a header go just over the bar, as City probed for that all important second goal.
Eastbourne then had a number of corners comfortably cleared as they looked for an equaliser.
With the visitors exposed, Truro caught them on the break. Michael Herve beat two defenders before firing low into the bottom corner to put the game out of sight and give Truro their first win in three games.
The White Tigers are back in action again at Treyew Road on Tuesday evening as they host Wealdstone.
