FALMOUTH Town will look to get back to winning ways when they make the the trip to Ivybridge Town on Saturday (kick-off 3pm).

Town are on a four-game winless run in the South West Peninsula League Premier that stretches back to October, with their last league victory coming at Bodmin Town's Priory Park on October 24.

Town lost 3-2 at home to second-placed Tavistock on Saturday, which was preceded by a 0-0 draw at Exmouth Town, a 3-3 draw at Tavistock's Langsford Park and a 1-0 defeat at Cullompton Rangers.

Falmouth ran out 3-1 winners when the two sides met in the reverse fixture at Bickland Park on August 17, with Matt Buchan's brace and a third strike from Jordan Annear securing a comeback win for the home side after Sam Stevens had given the Devon club the lead.

Midfielder Martyn Duff could return after missing the last few games due to injury but striker Matt Buchan is set to continue his spell on the sidelines.

Jordan Annear, who is dual registered with Western League club Plymouth Parkway, played 90 minutes for Town on Saturday after his parent club's league game with Bitton was called off, but is likely to be feature in the Devonians' game at Shortwood United on Saturday.

Town boss Andrew Westgarth said: “Well normally Ivybridge away is the game that always gets called off as their pitch holds water really badly. I think at this time of year you want to be playing games, you don’t want to catch up like we had last year, it was just a joke, so looking forward to it and hopefully getting back to winning ways.”

Opposition in brief

Ivybridge Town currently hold 16th spot in the SWPL Premier with 14 points to their name from 17 matches played so far this campaign.

The Ivies started slowly with just one points from their first seven games, including the 3-1 loss at Bickland Park.

But they have earned some promising results of late, with a spirited 2-1 defeat to Tavistock being followed up by a 3-0 win at home to St Austell, while their last outing was a thumping 5-0 win at bottom club Sticker.

The Ivies' FA Vase run came to an end in the second round proper at the hands of Saltash United, but they remain in the Walter C Parson League Cup and have a third round tie at Liskeard Athletic to look forward to.

The bigger picture

Town dropped a place to fourth after last weekend's narrow defeat but could snatch third spot back should they beat the Ivies and Exmouth Town lose at Torpoint Athletic.

Conversely, failure to beat Ivybridge could see Town slip to seventh should Saltash United and St Austell beat Callington and Newquay respectively.

Around the grounds

In the SWPL Division 1 West, Wendron United travel to Plymstock United (kick-off 2.15pm) fresh from an enforced two-week break after last week's game at Bere Alston was called off.

Dron will look to continue their fine form of late, having won seven of their last eight games in all competitions.

In the Combination League, leaders Falmouth Town reserves will look to keep second-placed Perranporth at bay for another week with a win at home to mid-table Mullion (kick-off 2.30pm).

Penryn Athletic make the trip to third-placed St Day in what should be one of the more fiercely competitive games of the weekend.

Perranwell will aim to make it nine wins from their last ten games in all competitions with three points at home to RNAS Culdrose.

Wendron United reserves could move up as many as six places to tenth if they win their local derby against struggling Porthleven reserves at Underlane.
