Exmouth Town 0, Falmouth Town 0

Falmouth Town had goalkeeper Ryan Barnes to thank for securing a useful point at Exmouth Town in their latest South West Peninsula League Premier match on Saturday.

The  visiting 'keeper made a number of saves to deny the sixth-placed side and ensure that Town move above Saltash United into third on goal difference.

Town had the better of the first half but failed to score past an Exmouth side who have conceded just one goal from eight league games at their King George V ground this season, while the hosts came back into it after the break but could not find a way past Barnes.

The visitors started brightly with Tim Nixon and Luke Johnson firing high and wide respectively, before Ollie Moody’s cross was almost volleyed home by Jack Bowyer but for a super stop from Exmouth ‘keeper Robbie Powell to tip it over the bar.

Exmouth hit back through top-scorer Ace High who forced a save from Barnes when he cut in and shot at goal, before Tim Nixon inexplicably failed to score for the visitors when his effort struck the post and fell back to him, only to strike the other post with his second attempt.

James Ward, making his 100th appearance for Town, sent a couple of headers wide from set pieces, before Barnes made a crucial save to stop High’s cross/shot from dropping in under the crossbar.

Barnes was on hand to make another good stop from High’s latest effort after the break as the hosts got on the front foot but the Town ‘keeper stood strong throughout, making another stop from a header late on as the visitors secured a point.
