Porthleven 0, Falmouth Town 2

MATT Buchan scored twice as Falmouth Town beat Porthleven to lift the Dave Gardner Memorial Trophy at Gala Parc on Saturday.

The trophy is Town's third of pre-season after winning the Aubrey Wilkes Trophy and the Charity Bowl.

Buchan scored two in five first-half minutes to ensure Town won the title and confirm his position as tournament top scorer with eight goals.

Buchan could have scored even earlier if he had not been thwarted at the end of his mazy run inside the Port box in the seventh minute.

Tim Nixon came close soon after before Buchan gave Town the lead on 17 minutes after rounding Porthleven goalkeeper Jason Robertson and firing home.

Buchan extended his side's advantage and doubled his own tally five minutes later before James Ward almost made it three with a header as Town threatened to run riot.

But Port reminded their opponents that they were still in a game as Ben Beesley and Rob Carey both tested Ryan Barnes within a few minutes of each other.

Player-manager Andrew Westgarth was next to come close for Town before Dan Hindmarch missed a huge chance to level when he fired over from close range.

Beesley looked to claw one back for the hosts on 54 minutes but for a superb overhead clearance on the line from Adam Williams.

Tom Annear tested Robertson with a free-kick before substitute Jack Bowyer almost added the finishing touch late on.
