Wendron United manager Jack Greenwood is pleased with how his side is shaping up ahead of the new season, despite suffering a 1-0 pre-season defeat at home to Illogan on Monday night.

An otherwise even game was settled by a late winner for the visitors from a goalmouth scramble.

Greenwood said: “I was really pleased with how organised we were, we’ve specifically worked on our shape and our ability to press and make sure we were difficult to break down which was very good today.

“In that regards I’m pleased but I’m a little bit concerned that we haven’t finished our chances, we had three really good chances and four or five other chances where we got into good positions.”

Besides the disappointing result, Greenwood is happy with how pre-season training has begun, as well as his transfer dealings.

“It’s looked very good,” he said. “I’ve been really pleased. We’ve brought in quite a few new faces. I feel like we’ve given ourselves more strength in depth and I feel like we’ve also given us a bit more height.

“We’ve made ourselves a slightly different side by bringing five or six faces that are actually quite aggressive and are bigger units rather than the smaller, younger lads we’d sort of been renowned for having.”

Another signing Jack has made is the Cornwall High Performance strength and conditioning team, who have been working with the side during pre-season.

“They’ve been a breath of fresh air,” Greenwood said. “I wasn’t quite sure how the lads would react to it, but actually I had a few texts afterwards and after the session everyone was like ‘I really enjoyed that’ and the lads that have been there every week have really enjoyed the progression.”
