Falmouth Town 3, Sticker 1

Falmouth Town returned to SWPL Premier action following their superb midweek semi-final win over Godolphin with another victory against Sticker at Bickland Park on Saturday.

Tim Nixon opened the scoring with his first for the club just before half-time, before Luke Brabyn and Rob Wearne sealed the points despite Andy Butler pulling one back for the visitors.

Heavy rain made the game a scrappy affair as Sticker edged a lacklustre first half, with Matt Lloyd firing narrowly wide from the edge of the box in the ninth minute.

Lloyd and Jason Rogers were the danger men for Sticker and the two combined on 16 minutes, with Tom Annear blocking Lloyd’s shot before Ryan Barnes saved Rogers’ follow-up.

Town had a sniff when goalkeeper Jamie Blatchford’s clearance hit Olly Walker to present the winger with a chance to lob into the unguarded goal but his effort was off target.

Sticker found themselves in on goal again two minutes later when Rogers’ excellent through ball put Lloyd in but Barnes was quick off his line to close down the shot.

But it was the hosts who led in first half added time when David Broglino’s free-kick fell to Nixon in the box to guide into the corner for his first goal since joining from Bodmin.

Sticker’s hopes were then dealt a massive blow on the hour when Walker crossed for Wearne to head at goal, with his effort being nudged over the line by Brabyn to double Town’s lead.

Town’s third came just four minutes later when Wearne powerfully headed substitute Marcello Jones’ cross past Blatchford to seemingly put the game out of sight.

But Sticker did at least get the goal that their earlier play merited ten minutes from time when substitute Andy Butler rose to loop a header over Barnes and into the corner.

Falmouth: R Barnes, J Ward, O Moody, T Annear, J Cooper (c), J Webber (R Martt 63), L Brabyn (A Westgarth 75), D Broglino, R Wearne, O Walker, T Nixon (M Jones 63).
