Dings Crusaders 20, Camborne 22

Camborne recorded a stunning victory over the favourites for promotion with a performance full of passion and commitment in Bristol.

Dings saw their 100 per cent record go against a pumped up Cherry & Whites side showing a number of changes due to injuries and unavailability.

Harvey Bell and Jake Champion formed a new half back combination for ‘Town’ with full debuts outside for Adam Higgins and Tian Clarke. Upfront Kieran Westlake and James Goldsworthy returned whilst stalwart Sam Bartle started at hooker.

The visitors enjoyed a good opening quarter and went ahead 6-0 with a brace of penalties from fly half Champion.

Slow to settle with Camborne pressurising at every opportunity the home side eventually opened their account with an unconverted try midway through the half.

Dings went ahead with a 30th minute penalty and as the interval neared against the run of play a converted try increased the advantage to 15-6.

Soon after the break the Cherry & Whites kept in touch with a 3rd penalty success from the boot of Champion.

The home side then piled on the pressure with ‘Town’ losing two players to the sin bin for technical offences in a period of attack ending in a further try for 20-9.

This set back galvanised the visitors who worked their way up field on the hour and when the defence fumbled close in scrum half Bell profited with a priceless touch down. Champion landed the conversion to reduce the gap to only four points.

Camborne were now on top crucially turning pressure into points from their next two attacks to snatch the lead as Champion coolly slotted two further penalties.

Late on the Cherry & Whites dug deep to hold on for a thrilling and fully deserved victory.
