St Agnes 1, Wendron Utd 3 (aet)

RYAN TRESIDDER spared Wendron’s blushes with a stoppage time equaliser before going on to complete his hat-trick in extra time of this Charity Cup tie.

St Agnes led for much of the match and took the lead in a first half in which Wendron were simply not at the races.

A stern half time address from manager Jack Greenwood saw the visitors emerge a different side in the second period, but it looked as if they had fluffed their lines before Tresidder’s scruffy goal in the dying moments.

The hosts were in front after 20 minutes following a calamitous defensive mix-up.

Defender Jack Burtenshaw ran towards his own goal and as keeper Dan Steadman advanced to collect it, Burtenshaw headed it past him, the two players collided and the St Agnes striker nipped in to score into an empty net.

Wendron lacked quality and desire until the break, after which they rediscovered their passing game.

Jack Stocker rattled the ball against the post and Wendron hit the upright again, before Charlie Clarke contrived to shoot over the crossbar from six yards out.

Adam Peters then went close before Greenwood switched to a more attacking formation with ten minutes to go.

With two of the four minutes of added time played, Andreas Calleja cut in from the right and swung in a left foot cross for Tresidder to ghost in at the back post and bundle the ball over the line off his shoulder.

Five minutes into extra time Tresidder picked up the ball out wide following his own corner and burst into the area before curling a lovely left footed shot into the corner.

The left back then completed an unlikely hat-trick in the second period of extra time when he curled a free kick past St Agnes’ third keeper of the afternoon – the two previous stoppers had been injured – to set up a place in the quarter-finals.
