First Class county Somerset will be bringing a strong squad to the County T20 Trophy at Truro Cricket Club on Sunday.

The event, sponsored by Luxury Cornish Ice Cream producers Treleavens, sees Tamar rivals Devon and Cornwall facing off in the first game, at 10.30am, followed by each of them pitting their skills against Somerset.

The cider county has formed much closer links with Cornwall over the past year, including the regular coaching of promising Cornish cricketers by Somerset CCC staff.

The Somerset line-up will be released via social media on Thursday.

Cornwall’s squad is Matt Robins (capt), Neil Curnow, Brad Wadlan, Greg Smith, Mark Gribble, James Turpin, Scott Harvey (wk), Tom Dinnis, Andrew Libby, Lewis Goldsworthy, Kelvin Snell, Justin Stephens and Alex Ridd.

Team manager Godfrey Furse gave credit to the Cornwall Cricket Board for having shown the initiative to launch the event, describing it as “an exciting challenge”.

There are no points at stake, but a whole load of pride, south-west bragging rights between and the ‘kudos’ of a Minor County perhaps “putting one over” a team with players from the First-Class game.

Twenty20, at the fast and furious end of the cricket spectrum, lasts around 2½ hours per match, with boundaries and sixes galore.

Schedule: 10.30am Cornwall v Devon, 1.45pm Devon v Somerset, 5.00pm Somerset v Cornwall. Venue: Truro CC, Boscawen Park, Truro. Gates open: 9.30am.

Tickets are available online until Friday (at www.cornwallcricket.co.uk), at the very low advance price of £5 for adults and £2 for Under 16s.

Admission ‘on the day’ will cost you a still reasonable £10 (U16s: £5).

Spectators please note that no glass containers will be allowed on site and the bringing in of alcoholic drinks will be limited to the equivalent of a bottle of wine or four cans of beer per adult.
