Tavistock 1, Falmouth Town 1

FALMOUTH threw a spanner in the works of Tavistock’s title challenge with a gutsy display against the league leaders on Saturday.

Tavistock had to play 70 minutes with ten men after Shane Craic was sent off for a tackle on Harry Clarke, but Town did not find an equaliser until ten minutes from time.

The visitors took the attack to Tavistock early on and Joe Cooper’s header was turned away by keeper Josh Oak.

Ryan Barnes made a fine stop to deny lethal marksman Glyn Hobbs at the other end, but a moment of indecision saw Town fall behind after 17 minutes.

Tom Whipp and Cooper failed to deal with a ball down the middle and Hobbs nipped in to shoot past Barnes.

Krac was then dismissed for his challenge which left Clarke prostrate after 22 minutes, but the hosts responded positively to the red card and almost doubled their lead but for a tremendous save from Barnes to deny Hobbs’ free kick.

Rob Wearne headed over the bar from a Clarke cross just before the break, but Tavvy laid siege to the Falmouth goal just after the restart, forcing a series of corners but the visitors stood firm.

Glen Squires made his 150th appearance for the club when he came on as a substitute just after the hour mark and in the 80th minute he fashioned an equaliser.

Ed Timmons made a great break down the right and swung over a high cross which Squires met and sent a brilliant looping header beyond the reach of Oak.

Timmons, fresh from his two goals last week, sniffed out the opportunity for a winner late on but his shot fizzed just wide of the near post.
