AS postponements go, Falmouth Town's match at Plymouth Parkway was one of the strangest for years.

The decision was taken by SWPL secretary Phil Hiscox to call off the game on Friday after travellers moved on to the site on Tuesday.

Boss Andrew Westgarth said: "I couldn't get my head round it at first. I saw that the game was postponed for travellers, but I wasn't sure what it meant until I saw some tweets explaining it. It has to be one of the weirdest reasons for not playing a game that I can remember."

Town make the 200-mile round trip to Witheridge on Saturday, four days before their much-anticipated Cornwall Senior Cup semi-final against Saltash United.

"We haven't talked too much about it. I'll be playing our strongest side to try and get a result on Saturday. If someone is unlucky enough to pick up an injury, that's life," said a philosophical Westgarth.

Dan Richardson is available again, as is James Ward, as the players audition for a place in the starting line-up at St Austell next week.

Harry Clarke and Marcello Jones will not be available for the cup match, as they are playing for Truro College in the National Colleges semi-final in London on the same day.

Town have already beaten Witheridge 5-1 this season and the Devon side have continued to struggle, winning only six of their 29 league games.

"How we didn't beat Callington last time out I'll never know. They couldn't have complained if we were 4-0 up at half time, but we just couldn't score. People may think we already had half an eye on the cup, but that's not the case at all," added Westgarth.

Penryn Athletic returned to winning ways in Division 1 West on Saturday with a 4-1 home success over bottom side Vospers Oak Villa. Their bid to finish as runners-up to champions-elect Sticker will be severely put to the test when they travel to third-placed Plymstock United on Saturday.

Penryn's neighbours Wendron United did them a favour by beating Plymstock 3-2 at the weekend, having trailed 2-0 at half time.
