COACHING duo Gavin Cattle and Alan Paver have signed new contracts for the Cornish Pirates.

Taking up reins as co-coaches last year following the departure of former Director of Rugby Ian Davies, the pair have put pen to paper on two-year contracts until the end of May, 2019.

Both individuals are very well-known and respected in Championship circles, having a wealth of experience behind them. They appeared as players for the Pirates in a number of memorable successes, including winning the EDF Energy National Trophy at Twickenham in 2007, and becoming the first ever winners of the British & Irish Cup in 2010. Also listed among their personal honours are featuring for the RFU Championship XV against the Maori All Blacks, and playing for the Barbarians.

Supporters will be aware that Welshman Gavin and Yorkshire-born Alan have completely embraced Cornish life during their years in the Duchy, whilst also epitomising all that is good about the Cornish Pirates. Dedicated and professional they have been an inspiration to so many.

Speaking with reference to this announcement, Gavin commented: “Taking on the roles of co-coaches has been a challenge but it one that both Alan and I have enjoyed. The squad has been smaller and generally younger, so credit is due the players who have maintained a focus to also develop and progress.”

Gavin added: “The next few years should form part of what has been, and is, an exciting journey, and although the commitment required is considerable, we can all sense the potential that is clearly there.”

The coaching future at the Cornish Pirates clearly looks bright, with it also confirmed that Cornish Pirates Director Martin Haag is to provide assistance on a part-time basis.
