Cornish Pirates return to British and Irish Cup action tomorrow when they visit Maesteg to take on Ospreys Premiership Select (2.30pm).

There are several "firsts" to note this weekend – it being an inaugural visit to Maesteg, it's a game when No. 8 Dan Lee will lead the team for the first time, whilst prop Luke Chapman is also lined up to play his first senior competitive match for the club. One player making a welcome return from injury is lock Josh Caulfield.

Speaking ahead of Saturday’s Celtic clash, Cornish Pirates coach Gavin Cattle has said: “A game against opposition such as Saturday’s is always difficult to gauge, because it depends on what are the needs for their first team and who is available to them. What we do know is for certain, however, is that playing in the shop window for their region they have had two good wins against Connacht Eagles.

“As for ourselves, we have made a few changes and have rested certain players in an effort to keep the squad fresh. At the same time this gives an opportunity for a number of those selected to put their hands up, not just for Cup match selection but also the Championship.”

Gavin added: “It is naturally important to strive for a good result but at the same time we are not counting our chickens and know we will have to perform, because if there is complacency in any area then we’ll be punished.”
