Falmouth Town 1, Plymouth Parkway 5

ROB Wearne’s 18th league goal of the season for Falmouth Town was not enough to stop Plymouth Parkway, who recorded a resounding 5-1 win at Bickland Park on Saturday.

The defeat was Falmouth’s 12th of the campaign, and it means they have now lost their last five SWPL Premier matches, and have slipped to 11th in the table.

The visitors started brightly, and their first goal arrived after just nine minutes when a corner was met by Danny Lewis, who powerfully headed past Falmouth’s Ryan Barnes.

Falmouth came close to equalising shortly after, when Dan Richardson ran deep into the opposition half, before taking a shot from 25 yards that flew narrowly past Cory Harvey’s post.

However, Parkway took control of the game with Mike Smith firing past Ryan Barnes to double the lead, before Christian Pople finished off an excellent team move to make it 3-0.

The hosts were much improved after half-time and were looking dangerous, with both Jordan and Tom Annear among those giving Parkway’s defenders something to think about.

Despite Falmouth’s improvement they couldn’t find a goal, and this proved costly when Callum Thompson turned the ball in from close range to score Parkway’s fourth on the hour.

Town did score in the 67th minute, when Jordan Annear saw his shot saved by Harvey, but only into the path of Rob Wearne, who tapped into an empty net.

The goal gave Falmouth a glimmer of hope, but that was extinguished five minutes later when Josh Zimmerman headed in a cross to restore Parkway’s four-goal advantage.

Annear kept looking for another consolation goal, and he nearly found one when he worked his way through the Parkway defence once again, but his shot was saved by Harvey.

Falmouth: R Barnes, E Timmons, H Clarke (O Walker 64), T Whipp, J Cooper (R Pope half-time), J Ward, M Vanes (M Jones half-time), D Richardson, R Wearne, J Annear, T Annear.

Packet Pick: J Annear – a constant threat to the Parkway defence.

Falmouth’s next match is an away game against Helston Athletic in the SWPL Premier on Boxing Day (Monday).
