Penryn 34 Plymouth Argaum 0

Penryn secured a comfortable bonus point victory against Plymouth Argaum at the memorial ground and have now managed to nil the opposition at home on four occasion so far this season. The Borough welcomed back several long term absentees at the weekend, including returning second row Ben Trevaskis who grabbed a hat trick of tries. With more players returning to fitness in the coming weeks, Penryn are well placed to continue moving up the league table in the New Year.

In what can only be described as atrocious weather conditions, Penryn started the better and didn’t waste any time in taking the lead. The returning Trevaskis crashed over from short range and a Matt Horton conversion extended the lead. The rest of the half was dictated by the weather, with a series of handling errors making for a stop start occasion. With the errors, came a series of set pieces which the Borough exerted their dominance in with great aplomb. A Horton penalty was the only other score of the half, which took Penryn 10 points clear.

If the weather in the second period was relentless, so too were Penryn. With the conditions still bad, they simplified their game, played to their strengths and it brought great reward. Second row Trevaskis scored his second of the game from similar range and with a Horton conversion, Penryn led 17-0. Penryn were hunting another home bonus point win and when centre Andrew Seviour shrugged of a couple of tackles in trademark style it was a matter of when, not if, Penryn would get the fourth try.

The fourth came soon after and again it was Trevaskis who completed his hat trick with another powerful short range bust. The lock was replaced by fellow returning forward Adam Hughes, as Penryn wrapped up the five points. Perhaps most impressive of all on the day, was the continued desire and hunger the Borough showed to shut the visitors out, even with the points in the bag. There was still time for a fifth as Horton went over and converted his own try on what was a satisfactory afternoon for Penryn, who travel to Saltash this weekend.
