Cornwall U18s 5, Lancashire 2

MATTIE Buchan scored four goals for Cornwall as they booked their place in the quarter-final of the FA County Youth Cup on Saturday.

The Helston striker was the hero of the hour for Glyn Hooper's side, giving his team a sixth minute lead at St Blazey when he latched on to a lovely through-ball from Porthleven's Jack Webber.

Buchan was brought down by the onrushing keeper just outside the area but picked himself up to curl a delightful free kick into the bottom corner.

Cornwall continued to press and were very much on top and on 23 minutes doubled the lead, some good interplay between Webber and Falmouth Town's Ollie Walker saw Walker release Joe Adkins, who out-ran the Lancashire defence and fired left footed into the bottom corner.

The Duchy were 3-0 up after 38 minutes when Josh Penrose, was brought down in the area and Buchan confidently converted the penalty.

Cornwall scored their 4th on 67 minutes. A quick break saw Joe Adkins find Josh Otto in the box and having skipped passed one defender was fouled by a second giving Cornwall another penalty. Buchan again stepped and fired down the middle of the goal to complete his hat trick.

Within a minute of the re-start Lancashire reduced the arrears, a fine strike from 25 yards was curled into the top corner by Dawson.

Cornwall were then pinned back and Lancashire got a second goal through Richardson who scored with a powerful header direct from a corner. It looked like it may be a nervy last few minutes for Cornwall but on 88 minutes Buchan settled the issue with his fourth goal to set up a home quarter-final against Sussex.

After the game Porthleven's Max Roberts was presented with a county tie to mark his debut.
